LTM implements Eco Friendly measures
03 January 2012
Lufthansa Technik Malta is constantly working to decrease its carbon footprint by addressing the subject from different angles.
These vary from lighting redesign, use of new lighting technologies, intelligent use of air conditioning, etc., to water consumption monitoring.
The latest initiative was started on 1st December 2011, by working with a company that is considered to be a leader in the field of waste recycling.
Within the first month, Lufthansa Technik Malts has achieved substantial results in a number of waste units, namely:
-
Plastics 100% recycling, previously 50% was incinerated and the remainder was placed in a landfill
-
Paper 99% is recycled and 1% sent to a landfill. Previously 100% was placed in a landfill
-
Cardboard 100% recycling, previously 50% was incinerated and the remainder was placed in a landfill
-
Rags 95% recycling while 5% sent to a landfill. Previously 100% was placed in a landfill
-
Metals Non A/C 99% is recycled and 1% sent to a landfill. Previously 100% was placed in a landfill
-
Solvents 60% is recycled and 40 % max, incinerated. Previously all was incinerated
Paints (expired) are also being recycled and processes are being set up for the recycling of toners, ink cartridges and metals from destroyed unserviceable aircraft parts.
A large part of the merit for the success already achieved, goes to the LTM workforce that is cooperating to the full, following to the letter the training given.
